The West
Virginia state flag was adopted in 1929. The
current West Virginia State flag displays the West Virginia
Coat of Arms
centered on a white field. The date of admission to the union,
June 20, 1863 is etched on a stone and the state motto "Montani
Semper Liberi" (Mountaineers Always Freemen) is printed on a
ribbon below the farmer and the miner on the West Virginia
state flag.
A red ribbon floats
above the coat of arms at the top of the West Virginia
State flag, with the words "State of West
Virginia". Wreathed rhododendron, the state flower, is
arranged on the West Virginia State flag below the coat of arms.
The pure white field of
the West Virginia State flag is bordered in blue on all four
sides of the West Virginia State flag. Like many
state flags, the West Virginia State flag bears the state coat
of arms. The West Virginia State flag is one of the few
state flags with a complete border. |
